DOCTRINAL
STATEMENT
PREAMBLE
We the members of Fairmount Bible Church, do ordain and establish the
following articles, to which we voluntarily submit ourselves.
ARTICLE
I NAME AND PLACE
The name of this organization shall be Fairmount Bible Church of Golden,
Colorado. The Fairmount Bible
Church was incorporated under the laws of Colorado the fourteenth of February,
1956. Said Church is incorporated
as an Independent, Nondenominational Church.
As of September 15, 1966, said Church was affiliated with the Rocky
Mountain Regional Conference of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America,
International for fellowship and edification, but is fully recognized as
an autonomous Church.
The object of this Church is to glorify God in the salvation of souls,
the edification of Christians through the teaching of God's Word, the worldwide
proclamation of God's saving grace expressed in the shed blood and finished work
of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary, the promotion of Godly worship, the defense
of the "Faith Once Delivered", and cooperation with Christian activity
functioning in harmony with God's Holy Word . . . The Bible . . . until He
comes.
Section
1 . . . The Bible
We believe that the scriptures, consisting of the sixty-six books of the
Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the
original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and
life. Matthew 5:18, John 16:12-13, II Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 1:1-2, II Peter
1:20-21.
Section
2 . . . The Godhead
We believe in one God, eternally existing and manifesting Himself to us
in three persons . . . Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19-20, II Corinthians 13:14.
Section
3 . . . The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became
man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit, and
born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal god and redeem sinful
man. Luke 1:35, John 1:1-2, 14.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption
through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary
sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by the literal, physical
resurrection from the dead. Romans
3:24-25,
I Corinthians 15:3-4, Ephesians 1:7, I Peter 1:3-5, 2:24.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, and is now
exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the
ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.
Acts 1:9-10, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 9:24, I John 2:1-2.
We believe in the "Blessed Hope", the personal, imminent,
pretribulation and premillennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His
redeemed ones, and in His subsequent return to earth, with His saints, to
establish His Millennial Kingdom. Zechariah
14:4-11,
I Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-18, 5:9, Revelation. 3:10, 19:11-16.
Section
4 . . . The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, that he is the person who
convicts the world of sin, or righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the
Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of
Christ, to indwell and set the believer apart to a Holy life, to keep and
empower the believer day by day, unto the day of Redemption. John 16:8-11,
Romans 8:9,
I Corinthians 12:12-14, II Corinthians 3:6, Ephesians 1:13-14.
We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who guides believers into all
truth; and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with
the Holy Spirit. John 16:13,
Ephesians 5:18, I John 2:20, 27.
Section
5 . . . The Ministry and Spiritual Gifts
We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts; and
that the gifts of evangelism, pastors, teachers, administrators, the gift of
exhortation, giving, mercy, faith and helps are sufficient for the perfecting of
the saints today. The sign gifts,
namely; Apostleship, prophet, miracle working, healings, tongues and the
interpretation of tongues as given to specific individuals, gradually ceased and
the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became
established.
I Corinthians 12:4-11, II Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 4:7-16, I
Corinthians 13:8-10, Romans 12:6-9.
We believe that God does hear and answer the prayer of faith in accord
with His own will, for the sick and afflicted.
John 15:7, I John 5:14-15, James 5:13-16.
Section
6 . . . The Total Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but
that in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became
alienated from God; and, that man is totally depraved, and of himself utterly
unable to remedy his lost condition. Genesis
1:26-27, Romans 3:9-23, Ephesians 2:1-3, 12.
Section
7 . . . Satan
We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin and the cause of
the Fall; that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man; and, that he
shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire. Job 1:6-7, Isaiah 14:12-17, Matthew 4:2-11, Revelation 20:10.
Section
8 . . . Salvation
and
Eternal Security of Believers
A. We believe that
salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal
faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the
forgiveness of our sins. John 1:12,
Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10, I Peter 1:18-19.
B. We believe that all the
redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ
forever. John 6:37-40, 10:27-30,
Romans 8:1, 38-39,
I Corinthians 1:48.
C. We believe that it is
the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation
through the testimony of God's Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of
Christian liberty as an occasion to satisfy the lusts of the flesh.
Romans 13:13-14, Galatians 5:13, Titus 2:11-15.
D. We believe that every
saved person possesses two natures, with provision made for victory of the new
nature over the old nature through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit; and,
that all claims to the eradication of the old nature in this life are
unscriptural. Romans 6:13, 8:12-13,
Galatians 5:16-25, Ephesians 4:22-24, Colossians 3:10, I Peter 1:14-16, I John
3:5-9.
Section
9 . . . The Resurrection and Eternal State
A. We believe in the bodily
resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment
and everlasting punishment. Matthew
25:46, John 5:28-29, 11:25-26, Revelation 20:5-6, 12-13.
B. We believe that the
souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the
Lord, where in conscious bliss, they await the first resurrection, when spirit,
soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord.
Luke 23:43, II Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:23, 3:21, I Thessalonians
4:16-17.
C. We believe that the
souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious misery until the second
resurrection, when with soul and body reunited they shall appear at the Great
White Throne Judgment, and shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be
annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment. Matthew 25:41-46,
Mark 9:43-48, Luke 16:19-25, II Thessalonians 1:7-9, Jude 6-7, Rev. 20:11-15.
Section
10 . . . Dispensational Truths
We believe in the dispensational view of Bible Interpretation.
This view teaches the following seven dispensations:
1. Innocence . . . Creation
to the fall of man. 2. Conscience . . . Fall of man to the flood (1656 years)
3. Human Government . . .
The flood to the Tower of Babel (427 years)
4. Promise . . . The call of
Abraham to the Exodus from Egypt (430 years)
5. Law . . . Mount Sinai to Calvary (1491 years)
6. Grace
. . . From Pentecost to the Rapture of the Saints (at least 1900 years) 7. Kingdom . . .
The descent of Christ to Throne of Judgment (1000 years).
Section
11 . . . The Church
We believe that all in this dispensation of Grace, who have been born
again, are members of the Church, the Body of Christ. Christ is the Head, we are members of His body, the Church.
I Corinthians 12:12-27, Ephesians 4:11-16, 5:25b-27, Colossians 1:18.
Section
1 . . . Water Baptism
We believe that Christian Baptism is the immersion into water and an
emersion from the water by a believer "In the Name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" to show forth our faith in the crucified,
buried and risen Savior, with its effect, our death to sin and resurrection to a
new life. We urge each member of
our Church to be obedient unto our Lord by being immersed or baptized.
Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12.
Section
2 . . . The Lord's Supper
We believe that the Lord's supper is a memorial service and is the
setting forth in a sacred and symbolic manner, the death of the Lord Jesus
Christ upon our behalf until He returns. The
emblems of the Communion Service are not literally the body and blood of Christ,
nor do they contain His flesh and blood. The
service is for those who have been born again, and to partake has value only as
it is closely joined with faith and repentance upon the part of the partaker.
Matthew 26:26-28, I Corinthians 11:17-32.
ARTICLE
V SCRIPTURAL TEACHING FOR CHRISTIAN
LIVING
Section
1 . . . Yielded Life and Service
We believe that God calls all who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior,
to a life of yieldedness to Him, and this yielded life is the privilege and duty
of every believer. Romans 12:1-2,
II Corinthians 6:14-7:1.
Section
2 . . . Church Membership
We believe that all in this dispensation who have been born again, are
members of the Church of Jesus Christ. The
Head of this body is Jesus Christ and we are members of His Body, the Church.
We believe that every Christian should settle down in a Gospel teaching
Church for fellowship and privilege of service.
I Corinthians 12:12-27, Ephesians 4:11-16, 5:25b-27, Colossians 1:18,
Hebrews 10:19-25.
Section
3 . . . Stewardship
We believe that God calls every Christian to the exercise of the gift of
giving, that the exercise of this gift is set forth in Scriptures as the
administration of a stewardship and consequently becomes a responsibility
without which the Christian life is unbalanced and incomplete.
We believe that Christian giving should be regular, reliable and
systematic. That it should be as generous as the believer's means will permit.
I Corinthians 4:2, 16:1-2, II Corinthians 8:1-15, 9:6-15.
Section
4 . . . Evangelism and Missions
We believe that everyone who has named the Name of Christ should be so
utterly devoted to the cause of his Lord that his devotion will find expression
in a life of Bible Study, prayer and soul winning. That this burden for the lost will not be confined to his own
local service for Christ but will reach to earth's remotest bounds; that his
support of missions should extend to his testimony, his prayer and his giving.
Matthew 4:19, 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Romans 10:13-17.
Section
5 . . . Worldliness and Separation
We believe that in these days of worldliness among professing
Christians, it is necessary that we call the attention of believers to the plain
teaching of God's Word concerning separation from all religious apostasy,
worldly amusements and entangling alliances with unbelievers.
Romans 12:1-2, 13, 14:21, I Corinthians 6:19-20, 10:31, II Corinthians
6:14--7:1, II Timothy 3:1-5, James 1:27, I John 2:15-17, II John 9-11.
The preceding scriptures plainly call upon the Child of God to refrain
from the carnal pleasures of the world, and from the indulgence in any
unquestionable practices which are so associated with vice and crime as to be
harmful in their influence and a stumbling block to the weak.
